Multi-Net Faith

E-mail Print PDF

Luke 5:4-5 (NKJV) When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, "Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch." But Simon answered and said to Him, "Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net."

A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of hearing Bishop Bill Lee speak at the Alabama Church of God camp meeting. He made an observation about Peter's fishing story in Luke chapter 5 that I have never noticed before. Jesus told Peter to cast his nets (plural), but when Peter carried out the instructions, he cast only one net (singular). Bishop Lee's observation was simple. God wants to give us a multi-net blessing, but we only have single-net faith. Profound, isn't it?

Max Lucado writes "the size of the runway determines the size of the plane that lands," when speaking of our capacity to receive the blessings of God. In 2 Kings chapter 3, King Jehoshaphat and two of his allies find themselves in trouble and call on the prophet Elisha. The prophet instructs them to "fill this valley with ditches" because it is going to rain. Simply put, if you prepare a place, the rain will come.

Ask yourself this question. Is what I'm asking God for, synonymous with what I'm believing God for? There's a difference. What we ASK for, and what we BELIEVE will happen are often two different things. This was Peter's dilemma. Jesus was preparing him for a multi-net blessing, but he only had single-net faith.

Remember Psalm 133, the Lord will "command the blessing" into your life. That's not prosperity preaching, it's a biblical principle. God desires to bless you. Psalm 84:11, "The Lord God is a sun and shield. The Lord will give grace and glory, and no good thing will He withhold from them that walk uprightly."

Go ahead, I dare you. Cast your NETS into the deep, and watch as God commands the fish to jump into your nets! That's a multiplication blessing!
